Breckenridge Brewery Shares More Than Just Avalanche Ale With Hockey Fans This Playoff Season

Just in time for the Avs playoffs, Breckenridge Brewery has announced it will be gifting their 2 rinkside season tickets to different "Community Stars" for each and every playoff game for the rest of the season.

Fans can head to breckbrew.com to nominate a deserving member of the community. And as part of their ongoing commitment to the Colorado community, Breck is promising a portion of proceeds of Avalanche Ale to the Boulder community fund to support victims of the Marshall fire.

“We recognize how challenging the last few years have been for so many Coloradoans and want to give those who have already given so much the chance to enjoy an Avalanche Ale while cheering on the Avs during what has been such an exciting season,“ said Todd Thibault, Culture Czar of Breckenridge Brewery. “And if you are superstitious like some of us, it’s important to know that Breckenridge’s Avalanche Ale launched the same year the Avs won their very first Stanley Cup, so we toast to good luck here.”

Breckenridge Brewery invites anyone to nominate community members who should get the chance to celebrate with the Avs throughout the playoffs. Fans can drop a name in the hat and learn more by visiting BreckBrew.com/CommunityStars. Each home game, Breck will hook up a fan and their friend with Playoff tickets, some gear to match, and of course, the drink of the season: Avalanche Ale.

“We have seen firsthand the strength of the community here in Colorado,” said Eric Schoenborn, Vice President of Engagement at the Community Foundation Boulder County. “We love seeing Breckenridge Brewery honor this uniquely special group of people with some much-needed celebration. Go Avs go!”

Sneaker Con Denver Recap | May 7, 2022

The world of sneaker collecting, selling, trading has become a world phenomenon. In a multi-billion dollar industry the hobby turned cash cow has evolved over the years. Sneaker Con brings together and gives this culture a place where grails are found, heat is sold, and collections are traded. This past weekend the Denver Convention Center played host to the revolving sneaker exhibit. From city to city Sneaker Con brings some of the most recognized sellers, collectors and You Tube celebrities to hang out for a day and exchange all the latest in the sneaker world.

This year vendors from all over set up shop luring those in wanting to cash out for some of the most sought after shoes on the market. A market that has been scrutinized by the resellers, from backdooring to fake sneakers the sneaker industry can be a slippery slope for those who value the old school style of purchasing and collecting. Sneaker Con gives ordinary people a chance to negotiate prices without the middleman. It is a safe place where even companies like Ebay provide authentication to pairs between sellers and buyers. This year provided for a well organized and friendly atmosphere for all. We came to take in all the action (we left our credit cards at home) and see what’s hot and upcoming trends. You Tube celebrities such as Chance D, Gigamas, Romy, Blazendary and more. GOAT sellers included PRVT Collection, PHX Soles, Urban Necessities, Retro Kicks and more. The event hits the road and arrives in Los Angeles next week and we already have FOMO. Thank you to Sneaker Con for having us out. Catch you next time.

Evergreen Music Festival Rebrands to ‘Hops Drops’ with new Leadership Team, new Vision, and Massive Expansion Plans for 2022 Music and Craft Beer Festiva

Hops Drops, previously known as Evergreen Music Festival, is proud to announce the new brand identity, leadership team, and vision for this year's 2022 Music + Craft Beer Festival, taking place on June 25, 2022, from 12:00 pm to 9:00 pm MT at Buchanan Park in Evergreen, Colorado. This will be the festival's 32nd year of musical celebrations in the heart of Evergreen.

Evergreen Music Festival celebrated its first year in 1966. The festival initially started with an intent to bring classical music to the mountains and has since been looked at as the beloved 4th of July fireworks celebration at Evergreen Lake. Thirty-two years later, the festival's leadership team has passed the reins to Evergreen hometown heros and long-standing local business owners Logan & Riley Boone, owners and operators of Boone Mountain Sports + Evergreen Brewery. Alongside the Boone family, local business owners Marcus Durante (Founder of Kree8), Bobby Everett (Co-Owner of Evergreen Brewery), and Colin Kerr (Owner of The Wildflower Cafe) have joined forces with the festival to better encapsulate the refreshed, modernized potential for Evergreen to be looked at as a go-to spot on the Colorado music and entertainment scene.

“Our Hops Drops team is made up of Evergreen locals, a team truly passionate about marrying music, craft beer, and the mountains, all to better our community and support local nonprofits while having fun,” said Logan Boone, new Executive Director of Hops Drops. “It is an honor to lead and grow this festival. We are incredibly excited at our potential to expand Evergreen’s entertainment offerings and bring a great music and beer festival to our picturesque mountain community.”

Attendees of the 2022 Hops Drops Music + Craft Beer Festival can expect to be submerged into a never-seen-before experience in Evergreen, filled with internationally known music legends as headliners (to be announced), numerous stages, various food vendors, kid-friendly activities, and an epic lineup of Colorado’s premier breweries, a craft beer lovers paradise if you must.

In addition to elevating Evergreen’s mountain entertainment, Hops Drop continues to support and give back to the local community and has committed to donating 10% of ticket sales to Rocky Mountain Academy of Evergreen.

“For 32 years, this festival has always been committed to supporting local artists and arts programs by donating proceeds to local schools supporting their music, art, and dance programs,” said Boone. “That is not changing this year. We will proudly continue the spirit of supporting artists and bettering our community any way we can.”

Early bird tickets are now on sale for $30 at www.hopsdropsevergreen.com. To stay up-to-date on all future Hops Drops announcements, please follow Hops Drops on Instagram @HopsDrops_Evergreen.

Our Picks For Your Best places To Eat and Drink During Christmas

The holidays can be stressful for many of us. In between shopping, working, and family gatherings the last thing we want to do is prepare a family feast. Luckily for you we’ve picked out a few of our favorite local eateries to take the stress of your plate (no pun intended).

CHRISTMAS DINE-IN

Three Saints Revival
Just-opened in November, Three Saints Revival (1801 Wewatta St.) offers a vibrant, bohemian wine bar feel with tapas, small plates, entrees and dishes every from coast of the Mediterranean (think Spain to Italy to Greece, Turkey, Egypt and more). On Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, Three Saints Revival is open and, in addition to the regular menu, will be offering guests a special rotisserie roasted porchetta. The spectacular roulade of pork is blasted with garlic, herbs, spices, and rotisseried to a rich, crispy-skinned finish and served with rosemary potatoes and cranberry mostarda. The housemade cranberry mostarda is a Northern Italian condiment made of candied fruit and a mustard-flavored syrup, an ideal holiday flavor pairing. $26; please call (720) 707-3500 for more information or make your reservations online.

CHRISTMAS TO-GO

Smok
Bring home a holiday meal with all the fixings from Smok, located in The Source (3330 Brighton Boulevard). Offered chilled with reheating instructions, packages include one whole beef brisket (5-5.5 pounds), two family-style sides of garlic roasted Brussels sprouts and cheesy truffle potato gratin, and a housemade chocolate cheesecake (serves six). The full package is $200, or you can opt for a brisket and sides for $180 or a cheesecake à la carte for $20. Call 720-452-2487 to order for pickup on Wednesday, December 22 or Thursday, December 23 for a Christmas Eve or Day feast.

Whole Sol
Whole Sol (multiple locations) is known for delicious vegan dishes and drinks, and this year they are serving up a to-go Vegan Christmas Dinner for a healthy celebration at home. The dinner options include vegan takes on favorites like vegetable Shepard’s pie, “meatballs” with cranberry glaze, baked kale gratin with garlic bread, spiced apple cider, and more. Don’t forget to satisfy your sweet tooth with vegan and gluten-free desserts like the maple pecan bread pudding, coconut chocolate cheesecake, and peppermint bark. All dishes are vegan, gluten-free, and organic. Order online wholesol.com; orders close Monday, December 20 at 8:00 am and will be available for pickup at the Pearl St. location in Boulder, and the Sloan’s Lake location in Denver on December 24 or December 25.

The team is offering a holiday favorite house-made peppermint syrup for the season as well as their onsite roasted and brewed Jingle Beans Holiday Roast, available only during the holidays and bottles and served in recycled wine bottles to heat up at home or drink over ice and cold. Pick up both any time between now and Christmas.

Starters: Once you have your meal sorted, time to tackle the starters. Mondo Market at Stanley Marketplace is creating charcuterie boards in sizes small ($49), medium ($74) and large ($120) for your holiday celebration, whether it’s for nibbling pre-dinner, lunchtime fill-ups, or casual all-day grazing while opening presents and hosting friends and family. Mondo’s creative chefs create the boards to order and can adapt to most requests. Order online here or call Mondo at 303-248-3983for more information or to reserve your board.

Cocktails: A memorable holiday meal needs a signature cocktail for the crowd: at Create Cooking School, it’s all about cocktails + cooking, and this year for the holidays the team took some of their best sellers and holiday favorites from the bar and batched them up in beautiful repurposed glass carafes to take-home for Christmas celebrations. Create’s batched cocktails are in 1liter bottles and include the Puerto Rican holiday cocktail the Coquito. The Coquito is a holiday drink with rum, coconut milk, sweetened condensed milk, and the classic fresh cinnamon and nutmeg spices, along with grenadine. It’s a spicy, creamy and festive alternative to eggnog. Other classic cocktails are available like the old fashioned, negroni, and a black Manhattan alongside creative new concoctions like the Sloe Down Bitter and Palomita. Ultra5280's Top Picks For Thanksgiving Eats And Drinks

Thanksgiving can be a busy week for many, with friends and family coming into to town sometimes the last thing we want to do is cook. Lucky for us these amazing Denver restaurants are willing to put in the hard work for us. Check out some of our favorite spots and what they have to offer this week.

Thanksgiving Eve – gather with friends on Weds night:

  • A meetup with old friends before the crush of family obligations on the holiday means an energetic bar, open-air rooftop, and free-flowing drinks. Federales (2903 Larimer St) checks all the boxes: a vibrant bar and restaurant with tacos, tortas, tequila and cocktails in a high-energy environment, just the thing for catching up with your friends before the holiday. Don’t miss the green chile nachos or the Pork & Pineapple tacos, Federales’ take on al pastor, and be sure to finish your night with the Choco Taco before heading home.

  • Energy and drinks are the name of the game at Barcelona Wine Bar (2900 Larimer St., Denver). Though known for their eclectic and easy wine lists, Barcelona is also a hidden-gem cocktail bar with Mediterranean-inspired cocktails, traditional + creative gintonics, and wine/port-based beverages – and a lively, U-shaped bar anchoring the space and tailor made for socializing, casual conversations, or intimate catch ups before the haste of the holiday. On the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, don’t miss the seasonal flavors in the Bourbon Spice Rack like Cardamaro, maple syrup, cardamom and lavender; or the Dos Peninsulas with joven tequila, sherry, lemon + agave and finished with nutmeg.

Thanksgiving Day – Kick back at home with these meals to-go:

Breckenridge Brewery And Breckenridge Distillery Partner For Buddy Pass Exchange

Two iconic ski-town businesses, Breckenridge Brewery and Breckenridge Distillery have teamed up to debut Buddy Pass, a unique barrel-exchange program. Buddy Pass is both a Whiskey Barrel-Aged Imperial Oatmeal Stout and an Imperial Stout Cask Finish Whiskey that blends the best of these award-winning brands. Breckenridge Brewery opened in 1990 and is the third oldest brewery in the state and Breckenridge Distillery, the World’s Highest Distillery is built from pure whiskey passion and quality products and one of the most highly awarded craft bourbons in the country.

“This is a true Breck to Breck partnership,” said Jimmy Walker, Head Innovations Brewer at Breckenridge Brewery. “We’re two like-minded companies that love to bring people together for moments that become memories. Plus, we’re buddies. Buddy Pass is an expression of our friendship as well an ode to the mountain’s buddy passes and the friendships toasted after an epic day. It’s truly a collaboration at its peak.”

The collaboration brings together the true culture of Breckenridge. Breckenridge Brewery brewed an Imperial Oatmeal Stout, a tribute to the first beer ever brewed there, it was then aged in Breckenridge Distillery Bourbon barrels from just down the road— 2.5 miles, to be exact. When the beer was sufficiently aged, imbued with flavors from the barrels, it was returned to stainless steel containers. Those freshly dumped barrels were taken back to Breckenridge Distillery and filled with its award-winning whiskey and aged again for about a year. The subsequent spirits and suds are a perfect marriage between the two craft companies that both beer and whiskey lovers alike will enjoy. Collaborations like this are so rare because of the short window of time when it's possible to refill the whiskey barrels after the beer has aged in them.

Buddy Pass is Breckenridge Brewery’s Barrel-Aged Imperial Oatmeal Stout is a quintessential “big beer.” With a velvety mouthfeel, this beer is meant to be sipped, not slammed. The Imperial Oatmeal Stout imparts notes of dark chocolate-covered cherries, espresso, and toffee; its time in the Breckenridge Distillery’s high-rye bourbon barrels imparts hints of caramel sweetness that take it to the next level. As a result, Buddy Pass is a bold, boozy brew that is meant to be shared.

Stout Cask Finish is Breckenridge Distillery’s showcase notes from the Imperial Oatmeal Stout. The resulting spirit is dark and sultry: the nose conjures rich, earthy chocolate-covered fruit; at first sip, velvety chocolate notes envelop the palate with hints of caramel and orange; think whiskey by the fire after a day on the slopes.

Buddy Pass will be available on November 15, 2021 and will be available November- February with Bottle (6/4) and Keg (1/2 BBL) (1/6 BBL) options.

Adidas Releases Yeezy Foam Runners in Ochre

photo-1574272635740-aa2e5c42edf1.jpeg

Kanye West’s collaboration line with Adidas recently dropped a new version of the Yeezy Foam Runner in a new color. This comes hot on the heels of West releasing his contentious album, Donda, which has caused plenty of controversy. West initially introduced the album (then in progress) via Twitter in 2020, and not long after, snippets from the new album were leaked.

Vox reports that Donda had originally been scheduled for release on July 24 of the same year as tweeted, and quickly deleted, by Kanye himself. But his plans of dropping Donda never came to fruition in 2020 and he gave no explanation to fans as to why. On top of the album fiasco, the past year has been quite tumultuous for the rapper’s personal life: losing the presidential election and rumors about the end of his marriage have been rife.

Despite the trials and tribulations of the past year, West was able to release the album, but not without problems. There was a severe backlash when the artist collaborated with Marilyn Manson and DaBaby, both of whom are known to be rather problematic to say the least – they're alleged sexual abusers and homophobic, respectively. And although Donda was able to debut at number 1 on the Billboard 200 charts, it was quickly overtaken by Drake’s Certified Lover Boy which was released just a week after.

West is obviously not going to let his competition overshadow him and has since announced the release of a new color for his Yeezy Foam Runner line to help continue the hype around his brand. The Yeezy line has been immensely successful since its initial release with Adidas in 2015. Forbes reports how the brand reached $1.5 billion in value in 2019. And it's expected to spike with this new album release. This shows how successful the collaboration is and how high the demand for Yeezys is.

The new Yeezy colorway is set to be called Ochre, and as the name suggests, the new shoe drop is expected to have an earthy, yellow shade. The teased photos of the new color closely resemble clay with its muted tinge. The shoe, which boasts an interesting and unique design, is built for comfort and maximum airflow. It was released on September 18 and is available on the Adidas CONFIRMED app and in select stores.

The Foam Runner’s interesting design is an example of how the shoe industry is creating daring designs mixed with usability and star power. Other brands like Nike have been creating new ways to make their products more eye-catching and noteworthy, like re-releasing long-term partner Drake’s CLB collaboration. The label also recently held a celebration showcasing their well-known Air Max where people could acquire Air Max-themed art in an auction. Just like Adidas, Nike is banking on iconic shoe models and collaborations with A-list artists to get ahead.

For Adidas, Kanye West's new shoe release is expected to sell out quickly, similar to how the Yeezy Boost 350 sold out in minutes. The bold design shows how the shoe world is changing and leaning into creating more artsy pieces. This is a trend that will most likely continue in the years to come, and you can expect big names like Kanye West to continue being involved.

Federales Is Throwing A Party Every Night At Their New RiNo Location

We were lucky enough to check out Federales during their ‘soft’ opening last week. What was thought to be friends, family, and some people stopping by eventually turned into an absolute party with a line wrapped around the corner which told us everything we needed to know.

As if RiNo’s bar scene isn’t lively enough, Federales, the open-aired tacos-and-tequila restaurant, took out major real estate on the corner of 29th and Larimer and is doing what RiNo does best – throwing a party.

The space is massive to say the least: 2,800 square feet inside; 2,200 square feet outside; and a retractable roof so you never have to worry about spending a beautiful CO day inside. Yet, it’s what they do with the space that will have people coming back for more.

Painted along their vast back wall is a mural stretching to every corner. Colorado native, Jason Botkin and Vincent Gordon of Denver’s DCCX Gallery took on this monumental project for Federales. Starting on the left, the mural gives an homage to their roots in Chicago, but soon progresses to some of Denver’s infamous characters like Blucifer.

Heard from blocks away, Federales offers something especially unique. For $10, you can buy a shot that comes in an ice shot glass and shatter it against a bell letting all your friends know that you either 1) have solid aim or 2) took a shot.

Other than shots, Federales highlights their margarita menu with showstoppers like spicy watermelon, frozen mango, and frozen tequila rose. For those who aren’t interested in tequila, they also offer beers on draft like Ratio, Odell, and Avery, and Laws Whiskey, Woody Creek, and Leopold Bros for spirits.

Aside from their noteworthy bar menu, Federales packs a punch with their food menu, all of which is made in-house and accommodates any and all dietary restrictions. The tamales, wood-grilled shrimp, and crispy potatoes have servers raving to tables, but they also offer larger entrees like quesadillas and burritos.

Post-last call food is almost impossible to find in Denver, so we got whiplash when they told us about their late-night menu options. The reclaimed home on the property has now been turned into every midnight wanderer’s oasis: the ‘caja.’ Available for pick-up, the ‘caja’ will offer walk-up grab-and-go service for tacos and drinks until last call.

Federales truly is a party. Except the kind of party where people are always giving you free chips and salsas and things to throw. They also only accept reservations for 25% of their seating, leaving the rest open for passersby and admirers -- and we love an equal-opportunity waitlist. First come, first serve (but even first on the waitlist puts you in an outdoor section with easy access to the caja house for drinks and food.)

If you haven’t checked out Federales, you’re most likely on a short list. They are affordable, approachable, and admirable in their facing of the late-night food-desert that Denver becomes every night once bars close. Throwing ice-shots or not, Federales is throwing down every day of the week.
