Valentine’s Day Plans For You and Yours!

Choosing a place to eat on Valentine’s Day can always be a pain. Luckily for you we have narrowed down a few of our fave spots to check out on this romantic day. It doesnt matter if your single, taken, or just looking for love, check out these amazing spots.

Romantic Dining

Low lights, warm wood, sparkling accents and dishes from the heart make Cozobi in Boulder an ideal spot for Valentine’s Day dining. Husband-and-wife duo Michelin-starred Chef/Owner Johnny Curiel and co-owner Kasie Curiel know how to turn up the romance for any kind of celebration: cozy up in an intimate booth, score a spot at the energetic central bar or settle in at the feels-private chef’s counter where you’ll find your server is also your chef. Sip on a cocktail or choice from the global wine menu and explore the beauty of Mexican culture through dishes like the all new Aguachile De Piquin with Japanese hamachi, orange supremes, orange oil, chile piquin; Carne Asada with Angus NY strip, morita salt, roasted onions, salsa de molcajete, frijoles puercos; and Lubina Rayada, Pacifico striped bass with corn chile atole, roasted potatoes, and charred tomatoes.

Fueled by the romance of Spain and the Mediterranean coasts, tapas are more a way of life than just a dish, and few things are more intimate than handheld foods. At Barcelona Wine Bar, RiNo’s tapas-and-wine mecca, the hand-held food and tastes of tapas practically guarantee connection. For a romantic date night kickstart flirtation with paellas, crispy and sizzling and ideal to share directly from the pan while cozied up in the intimate romantic interior dining space that's reminiscent of a languorous night in Europe. Don’t miss a tabletop porrón service of one of Barcelona’s award-winning roster of organic and natural wines, cocktails, spirits, or sangrias.

Stepping into Corsica in RiNo feels like transporting into the old-world, coastal inspired country of romance. Exotic dishes, ingredients, and shareable cocktails and drinks encourage connection, while the artwork and photographs on the walls suggest intimate and personal moments caught on camera and the space encourages romance with deep booths, cozy two tops, and a dreamy back room with a gallery wall of couples in frames. Try an apéro like Warm Stuffed Dates with nduja, hazelnut, and tarragon; follow it up with the romantic-red Tuna Carpaccio with citrus, calabrian chili and crispy quinoa. Try the Barbajuan, crispy ravioli with ricotta, greens and parmigiano or the gemelli cacio y pepe with parmigiano, pecorino romano and hazelnuts. The Mussels l’Aziminu with saffron lobster broth and gals crouton is a can’t miss, as is the Grilled Pork Belly with fennel and saffron. The chocolate ganache served with seeded crackers for swiping or the creme brulee with bay leaf and Demerara sugar are excellent desert choices.

Take a Valentine’s Day trip to Mexico City without leaving the Mile High City. At Mezcaleria Alma, Chef Johnny Curiel, owner of Michelin-starred Alma Fonda Fina, is taking diners to CDMX through small plates inspired by the culinary innovation found there. Take your date on a tour of the capital city with bites of Crudo de Atún with jalapeño kizami, orange supremes, black garlic aguachile and crispy leeks; Carne Apache with NY strip, manzanilla olive vinaigrette, dried chile salsa and hoja santa puree; or the arroz a la tumbada de hongos, an indulgent and comforting dish with wild mushroom broth, cured egg yolk, chive jocoque and crispy wild mushrooms. Pair your choices with agave-forward cocktails featuring Mexican spirits for a Valentine’s Day away – all while staying close to home.

The sexiest table in Denver is upstairs at Chef Dana Rodriguez’s Carne. Grab a reservation at the James Beard Award nominee’s stylish RiNo restaurant to globe-hop via dishes like Argentinian Bife de Chorizo, Italian Beal Osso Bucco, French Duck Confit and Brazilian Picanha. Don’t forget to make the classy move and beckon the Martini Trolley for tableside pours for two before indulging in housemade Baked Alaska for dessert.

Make it a Date

Sure - flowers and chocolates are fine for Valentine’s Day, but what about the gift of time? Spend the day together at reclaimed aviation factory Stanley Marketplace for experiences light years from the tired Dinner and A Movie routine. First, couples who learn together stay together, so roll up your sleeves for a pottery throwing class at Friend Assembly, followed by a drink and snacks (served by a robot) at Chi Lin Asian Eatery before heading over to spruce up with a relaxing hydrafacial for two at Clementine’s Salon and Skincare. Meet back up for a pre-dinner beer at GABF multi medal-winner Cheluna Brewing and then head across the hall for a dinner of elevated homestyle classics at intimate James Beard award winning restaurant Annette. Finish the night with a stroll and a cone from Sweet Cow and consider a take-home bottle of bubbly from Mr. B’s Wine & Spirits to continue celebrating at home.

Stupid Cupid

Dreading the clichéd romantic scene or romantic antics at the white-tablecloth spots? Surround yourself with fellow skeptics at Federales (2901 Larimer St.) and make it the actual happiest of hours with an all-day Happy Hour. On Valentine’s Day, Friday, February 14, doors open at 11 am for Happy hour specials stretching all day until 6pm. Think taquitos, queso blanco, guacamole, grande nachos alongside beverage specials like $9 select margarita, beer buckets and $8 Flecha Azul Reposado ice shots to take the chill off. The restaurant will be decorated and additional specials for the day will be on offer. You can reserve your table online here.

Grab your girls – and a reservation – and get to Chef Dana Rodriguez’s Work & Class for a perfect Galentine’s Day. Take turns ordering apps, meats and sides to build a table worthy of a girls’ night out. From the Lemon Brown Butter Chicken and Cabrito (Red Chili Braised Goat) to the Smoked Pork and Coriander-braised Lamb, perfectly prepared meats pair with Fontina Mac & Cheese, Mustard Cream Braised Greens and more to create a memorable celebration.

Gather your crew and head to Mecha Noodle Bar, where group dining gets a serious glow-up. Perfect for singles, skeptics, and anyone chasing good vibes, Mecha brings the fun with communal tables, slurpable bowls and cocktails that are anything but basic. Embrace pink drinks with the Strawberry Matcha Boba, a sweet-meets-earthy treat with vibrant layers of strawberry and matcha, or grab the Tropic Like It’s Hottt, a large format cocktail made to share with the whole squad. No booze? No problem. The With A Cherry on Top NA option delivers tangy cranberry rosemary shrub, a kick of ginger and fizzy club soda for a cheers-worthy sip.

Help a Friend Out

The Golden Mill has partnered with Pitch-A-Friend - an organization that celebrates friendship by allowing people to give short slide presentations about their remarkable single friends to a lively audience of other singles - for a special Valentine’s Day event. Anyone can sign up to create a 3-5 minute slide presentation about how awesome their single friend is, then pitch them at The Golden Mill on Valentine’s Day starting at 6:30. Everyone is invited to get pitched, make a pitch, or just hang out in a singles-friendly environment.

While known for their big bowls of comforting and slurp-worthy ramen noodles, Glo Noodle House (4450 W 38th Ave #130, Denver, CO 80212), the Asian-inspired Highland hangout from industry vets and husband and wife duo Christopher and Ariana Tiegland are also serving up some pretty serious sips and bites on their new daily happy hour menu offered from 4 – 6 pm throughout the restaurant and pup-friendly patio. And now, it’s her turn. It’s the perfect sweet treat to share with grandma or the grandma-figure in your life.

And two-time Latin GRAMMY® nominee and Puerto Rican star Jay Wheeler is creating a cover of the iconic Latin song “Piel Canela.”

A Sweet Twist on a Summertime Favorite: Grandma’s McFlurry® Mobile

To kick off the celebration, McDonald’s is rolling out Grandma’s McFlurry Mobile – McDonald's take on the beloved ice cream truck – offering a free, first taste of the new Grandma McFlurry before it’s available in restaurants. Just listen for a familiar McDonald’s jingle playing on the speakers as the ice cream truck makes its way around the city.

Winter Wellness for Varicose Veins: Maintaining Comfort in Cold Temperatures

Varicose veins, those twisted and swollen veins often seen on the legs, can be a nuisance at any time of the year. However, they can become particularly bothersome when the cold weather sets in. In this article, we’ll tell you how to manage varicose veins during colder months, which are crucial for maintaining comfort and vein health.

Understanding Varicose Veins

Varicose veins happen when the valves within veins fail. When this occurs, blood pools and the veins get enlarged. This condition is commonly influenced by:

- Genetics

- Age

- Weather

- Prolonged standing or sitting

Fortunately, options are available for managing varicose veins and reducing their impact on your life, from lifestyle changes like wearing compression stockings and elevating your legs to medical treatments.

Effects of Cold Weather on Varicose Veins

Winter brings with it cozy sweaters, hot cocoa, and, unfortunately, some extra trouble for those with varicose veins. When the temperature drops, your veins can start acting up, causing more discomfort than usual.

Why Does the Cold Make Things Worse?

Ever notice how your fingers and toes feel a bit numb when it's freezing outside? Well, the same thing happens to your veins. Cold weather makes your blood vessels constrict, which means they get narrower. This puts extra pressure on your veins, making those bulging varicose veins feel even more uncomfortable. If you notice some of these symptoms in your legs, visit a Denver Vein Doctor for professional help.

Winter Wellness Strategies

Winter can be tough on our veins, especially for those already dealing with varicose veins. But don't worry. There are some strategies you can adopt to keep your veins happy and healthy during the colder months.

Stay Active, Stay Warm

Staying active is also key. Sure, it may be tempting to curl up under a blanket when it's chilly outside, but getting your blood pumping with some gentle exercise can actually help improve circulation and reduce swelling in your veins. Even if it's too chilly to venture outside, you can do many indoor activities to keep moving. Try some indoor exercises like:

- Yoga

- Pilates

- Dancing

These activities will keep your blood flowing and help ward off those winter blues.

Now, let's talk about those fun winter activities like skiing or ice skating. While they may be a blast, they can also be tough on your veins. The repetitive motions and the strain they put on your legs can exacerbate your varicose vein symptoms, leaving you feeling achy and sore.

The Importance of Hydration

Next, let's discuss hydration. Drinking plenty of water throughout the day is key to maintaining healthy blood flow and preventing sluggish veins. Remember to hydrate before, during, and after exercise to keep your veins happy and hydrated.

Bundle Up Wisely

When heading outdoors, make sure to dress warmly and layer up. Proper clothing keeps you warm and helps regulate your body temperature, which is crucial for vein health. Opt for loose, comfortable clothing that doesn't restrict blood flow. Also, invest in supportive footwear to ease the strain on your legs.

Embrace Relaxation Techniques

Winter can be stressful, but managing stress is essential for vein health. Take time to unwind and relax with activities like:

- Meditation

- Deep breathing exercises

- Indulging in your favorite hobbies

By reducing stress, you'll feel better mentally and alleviate tension in your veins.

Prioritize Self-Care

Lastly, don't forget to take care of yourself. Moisturize your skin often to prevent dryness and itchiness, and avoid hot baths or showers, as they can worsen symptoms. Instead, opt for warm water to keep your skin happy and your veins comfortable. Here are some additional tips to prioritize self-care and ensure your veins stay happy and healthy:

- Elevate Your Legs

- Practice Gentle Massage

- Maintain a Healthy Weight

- Avoid Crossing Your Legs

- Limit High-Heeled Shoes

By prioritizing self-care and incorporating these additional tips into your routine, you can effectively manage varicose veins and enjoy greater comfort and mobility during winter. Remember to listen to your body and always consult with a doctor if you have any concerns or questions about your vein health.

Denver's Newest Entertainment Experience LOB Delivers Fun And Excitement

Nestled in the heart of Downtown Denver sits Lob, a new entertainment complex that recently opened.

Quick background on Lob.

Established in Toronto in 2018, Lob emerges as a distinctive hospitality venture, distinguished by its unique position in the competitive socializing landscape. Inspired by the convivial atmosphere of backyard gatherings and the leisurely spirit of bocce, Lob, both as a game and a dining destination, is deliberately curated to foster camaraderie and meaningful connections. Rooted in a deep appreciation for the communal spirit of backyard gatherings while incorporating the strategic elements akin to golf, Lob embodies a fusion of these influences. Beyond its nine-track course, Lob encompasses meticulously crafted culinary and beverage offerings, a distinct team ethos, and an overarching concept that resonates with a diverse clientele. With current locations in Toronto and now Denver, CO, Lob is ready to tee up and unleash the fun.

We had a chance to come check out what is sure to become a premiere destination for fun and excitement to the Mile High City. Upon arrival we were greeted by the amazing staff who gave us a quick tour of the facility and brief introduction into the game. Simply described as part bocce ball/part golf we decided to give it a try. As we took the course we had a chance to sample some signature cocktails including the Espresso Martini and margaritas (they have a spicy version thats a must try). The nine hole layout is simple to navigate and get this is only $18 gets you unlimited play. We started off a bit rusty but once we got the hang of it we felt like seasoned veterans.

Games and cocktails aside they also boast a fine selection of shareable appetizers and mouth watering entrees. We had the chicken wings (which come in a variety of flavors), nachos and finished off with their in-house smoked ribs. Check out the rest of their menu here.

So if you are looking for something new to do or even entertain a group of friends Lob packs it in all in one place.

Sustainability at Colorado Hotels: Limelight Denver

As we embark on Earth month, we want to showcase some of the amazing companies who are making a difference and setting the bar for sustainability and eco-friendly practices.

Just as Limelight Denver mixes the mountain vibe of Aspen One properties with the sophistication of the Mile High City, it also encapsulates the brand’s fundamental value to fight  climate change. When staying at a Limelight property, guests become part of a movement to improve the world.

Below are highlights of sustainability efforts at Limelight Denver Hotel (LLD). Complete information can be found here.

Waste Reduction and Diversion:

  • All Limelight Hotels partner with ReCork, which recycles wine corks from the restaurants into shoe soles.

  • All hard-to-recycle materials - such as batteries, light bulbs, and electronics - are given to Limelight’s engineering teams to reuse, recycle, or dispose of properly.

  • Replaced plastic laundry and dry cleaning bags in guest rooms with reusable garment bags.

Energy and Water Conservation:

  • LLD uses a building automation system to manage and minimize energy usage throughout the property.

  • Linen conservation program encourages guests to reuse their sheets and towels to conserve water and energy. As part of its “opt out of housekeeping” program, LLD has had over 400 opt outs for daily housekeeping this year - that’s more than 4,000 gallons of water saved!.

  • All guests and employees are encouraged to utilize the A-Line train from Denver International Airport or the RTD bus and rail services as transportation to help limit emissions. Once on property, guests are encouraged to walk, bike, or scooter around town.

  • LLD has a Tesla available for transporting guests via electric car and charging stations are available to guests.

Community Engagement:

  • Climate Change Advocacy: beginning this summer, LLD guests will have the opportunity to write postcards to politicians urging them to pass climate change legislation.

  • Hotels donate used linens, towels, and other materials in good condition to various nonprofits and shelters.

Other:

  • LLD and Citizen Rail source food locally as much as possible, and seek out suppliers with sustainable practices.

  • Guest room keys are made from wood, instead of plastic.

St. Patrick's Day In Denver (Where to Celebrate)

St. Patrick’s Day in Denver has always been full of traditions, from the parade to the bustling bars serving up green beer and Irish whiskey. We narrowed down a few spots to check out this year if you are feeling lucky.

Stanley Marketplace:

Grab your green and head to Stanley Marketplace on March 17 for the annual St. Patrick’s Day performance by students from Celtic Steps School of Irish Dance at 1 pm on the Southeast Plaza. The local dance troupe will be showcasing traditional Irish dance favorites, bringing the heart, soul and luck of the Irish to Stanley Marketplace in a celebration of Irish culture and history. While you’re there grab a stout for the season at Stanley Beer Hall with choices from the 51 self-pour tap wall, like the Dry Irish Stout Nitro from Left Hand Brewing Co., or consider a Latin-inspired cerveza like the El Flaco Dry Irish Stout from GABF award-winning Cheluna Brewing Company after the show.

Yardbird:

Embrace your Irish spirit on St. Patrick’s Day with a post-parade patio party at Yardbird. Located just steps from the parade’s end in RiNo, Yardbird is firing up the smoker and hosting a celebration after the parade on their south-facing outdoor Front Porch with a special menu of traditional bites and beverages like a smoked brisket reuben with Yardbird fancy sauce, sprout kraut and swiss cheese, served on marble rye; pastrami spring rolls with Swiss cheese, house made pickles, and Russian dressing, and bangers & mash, Irish sausage served with yukon gold potato puree and caramelized onion gravy. Special sips for the day include traditional black & tansIrish car bombs with Jameson, Bailey’s Irish cream, and Guinness; and Irish coffe with Jameson, brown sugar, hot coffee and topped with clouds of whipped cream. The DJ starts spinning tunes at 2:30 and the party lasts until 6pm; visit online to learn more.

Federales:

Denver has a reputation for hosting one of the country’s largest St. Patrick’s Day parades, and this year on Saturday 3/16 is no different. The team at Federales is marking the day with their annual Party Like a Piñata St. Patrick’s Day party, as the tequila + tacos emporium opens doors at 9am for the celebration until noon that includes 4 drinks tickets plus food buffet. You can purchase tickets online or visit FederalesDenver.com to learn more.

Safe Play: KINK Denver Rewrites Narratives

(Photo/Juli Yanai — @jbelle.photo)

On Friday, Feb. 9th the annual KINK Denver event took place at Tracks nightclub in the Rino Arts District in Denver, Colo. The event boasts being “Denver’s largest fetish ball” and hosts an eclectic array of vendors and performers, ranging from fire dancers to stands selling 3D-printed sex toy paraphernalia.

Performances included but were not limited to live roleplay, burlesque dancers and an aerial performance done on hanging chains.

Attendees were also invited to take part in interactive stands, experiencing “shibari”, a type of rope play originated in Japan where individuals are tied up in elaborate ways, or they could also opt to be vacuum sealed. Exploration was at the forefront, and KINK was unashamed to hold space for all kinds of funfare.

Most importantly, the space created open dialogue for people to enjoy themselves in a liberated manner and explore with an emphasis on ethical practices. While the fetish community has a tendency to be infamous for its portrayal in the media, KINK Denver hopes to change that narrative through creating a space for safe sexual exploration that promotes emphatic consent.

Throughout the night there were announcements, as well as scattered signage promoting inclusivity and ethical sexual practices that highlighted the energy of KINK Denver, and how it continues to educate and serve the community in a fun, engaging manner.

KINK Denver is hosted by Tracks at Reelworks, among many other events. Tickets for upcoming events can be found at their website, linked below.

Denver's Nostalgic Arcade and Pinball Revival

Retro Rewind

Remember the days when you'd spend hours at the local arcade, pocket full of quarters, eyes fixed on the glowing screens of classic games?

Well, guess what? Denver's arcade and pinball bar scene is taking us on a retro trip down memory lane, reviving the golden era of gaming. So, grab your quarters from the casino online, and let's embark on a journey through this thrilling retro arcade and pinball revival.

The Nostalgia Resurgence

It may come as a surprise that classic arcade games and pinball machines are making a comeback over our current graphics and virtual reality experiences.

But nostalgia is a powerful force, and many millennials and Gen Xers are yearning for the simple joys of their childhood. Denver's arcade and pinball bars have tapped into this sentiment, providing a space where patrons can relive the magic of the past.

The Classics Revisited

Step into these nostalgic havens, and you'll find a treasure trove of classic arcade games and pinball machines. Remember the iconic Pac-Man, where you'd guide the hungry yellow circle through a maze, chased by colorful ghosts?

Remember the exciting Street Fighter battles that used to fill your afternoons? Denver's vintage arcades provide that and more. They revive the appeal of pixelated graphics and straightforward yet captivating gameplay.

A Modern Twist

While the games remain true to their origins, Denver's arcade and pinball bars have added a modern touch to the experience. You'll often find well-stocked bars serving craft beers, cocktails, and retro-themed snacks.

It's a fusion of old and new, where you can sip on a locally brewed IPA while trying to beat your high score on Donkey Kong. The ambiance, complete with neon lights and vintage posters, transports you to the past while keeping your senses engaged in the present.

Social Gaming Galore

One of the highlights of Denver's arcade and pinball revival is the social element it brings. These venues are not just about playing games; they're about connecting with friends, family, and fellow gamers.

Challenge your buddies to a friendly match of Skeeball or engage in a pinball tournament with strangers-turned-friends. The camaraderie and shared love for these retro games foster an environment that's as welcoming as it is entertaining.

Pinball Wizards Unite

Pinball, with its mechanical sounds and flashing lights, has a unique place in gaming history. Denver's arcade and pinball bars pay tribute to this legacy by showcasing a variety of pinball machines that span different eras.

This revival doesn't leave out diversity. For instance, there's the Japanese-themed Akihabara Arcade, located at 8901 N Harlan St, Westminster, CO 80031, USA.

From the classic tables of the '70s to the more intricate designs of the '90s, you can trace the evolution of pinball while mastering the art of the flipper. There's something satisfying about the tactile nature of pinball, making it a favorite among enthusiasts.

A Night of Nostalgic Fun

Imagine stepping into a lit arcade, the hum of machines filling the air, and the laughter of fellow gamers echoing around you. Denver's retro arcade and pinball bars offer a unique backdrop for special events and parties.

Whether it's a birthday, a work event, or searching for a special date night idea, these places will make sure to be a memorable night of nostalgic fun.

Keeping the Past Alive

Denver's arcades and pinball bars show a new generation how great old-school gaming can be. Kids who use fancy consoles and touchscreens can now have fun with simple games that require hard controls or complicated stories.
But it's not just a strong sign of how much we like old things. These places mix old games with modern stuff, making a special spot where you can remember good times and make new memories.

Whether you are a game fanatic or want a different kind of night out, don't miss the chance to go back in time on a rollercoaster of Denver's arcade scene.
